When I asked the founder of Hawchester to tell me about the movement of their watches, he said the following:
“Miyota is the name of the Citizen Watches movement production facility. Basically, the internal movement of Hawchester watches is made by Miyota whose parent’s company is Citizen watches. They are all made in Japan, which makes them highly reliable.
Movements are generally divided into automatic and quartz. Automatic watches rely on kinetic energy, while quartz watches rely on the beat of the quartz crystal, which is battery powered. The Hawchester Clerkenwell Automatic has no battery and relies on a mechanical movement to keep the watch hands ticking.
It has a power reserve of around 42 hours, which is the norm for mechanical watches (even Swiss watches that cost over 10,000 USD have a similar power reserve). Hawchester then also has a chronograph watch collection (Hawchester Clerkenwell Chrono) which is powered by a quartz movement with up to 5 years of battery life and has a chronograph function.”
